The Realtor’s Corner – By Sue Collins, ReMax 100
Since the real estate and housing markets seem to be the hottest topics around today, I thought I would take this opportunity to share some of the statistics I can access through our local MLS.
To give you a feel for recent real estate activity in Whittier, I have compiled a summary of active, sold, and withdrawn properties for 2007 though Feb 29, 2008. This does not include any of the data for new homes bought directly from Drees Homes.

Bulk Trash Collection Set for April 2008
Frederick, Md. --- The City of Frederick is pleased to announce the Spring Bulk Trash Collection is scheduled for April 2008. Crews from the Department of Public Works will pick up bulk waste that has been set in the City right of way and meets all criteria. Items not meeting these criteria will be left behind and tagged with the disposal responsibility falling back to the resident.
The bulk collection has been divided into two areas. In some cases, the waste material will stay out for three days before it can be collected.

Pet Etiquette
(Posted in the March 2005 edition of the Whittier Express newsletter.)
Whittier’s covenants state that pet owners should “pick up after their pets.” The Frederick city also has an enforceable pet waste ordinance. Let’s face it these things are not only the law but also signs of a considerate pet owner/neighbor.
You Can't Ever Assume
(Posted originally by Merle Wexler in the March 2005 edition of the Whittier Express newsletter.)
When older adults tell us a story, we frequently assume it is part fantasy and part truth. One of my colleagues at the Somerford Home Office told me a story about her grandmother who is a resident at one of our Somerford House general assisted living residences. I will call the colleague ‘Sara’ and her grandmother ‘Millie’.
Keeping Up Appearances
(Posted originally in the March 2005 Whittier Express newsletter.)
Over the past year there has been an increase in the number of homeowner violations. Keeping up appearances, in regards to your home, will go a long way in keeping Whittier beautiful.
