Exterior Painting

The covenants require all exterior paint colors be the original Ausherman approved color. Any change in exterior paint color requires ACC approval.

Please paint your homes exterior doors / shutters / trim at the same time. Otherwise, the doors and shutters do not match in the same shade because of the differences in the age of the paint.

Townhouses - When you need to repaint your exterior trim please keep in mind that there are only 2 ACC approved trim colors.

  • Townhouses with white exterior trim
    • McCormick 100 Super White (This is a pure white)
  • Townhouses with almond exterior trim
    • Alcoa Almond. This is a custom color mixed to match the siding (Alcoa 5 inch German Woodgrain). Duron brand paint was used to mix Alcoa Almond.

Exterior Painting on townhouses with Detached Garages - This applies only on townhouses with detached garages that have garage doors that are paintable. (Older sections)

  • The only ACC approved color for these garage doors is Alcoa Sandtone. This is a custom color mixed to match the siding (Siding is called Alcoa Sandtone) used on the garages (Alcoa 5 inch German Woodgrain). McCormick brand paints were used to mix Alcoa Sandtone.
  • If you are in need of your original exterior paint colors please contact us at townhouse@gowhittier.org or call Vanguard at 301-253-5052 (local call) with the following information: name, address, lot #, if you have it (on plot plants) and telephone number. * Note- Vanguard will forward this information to the townhouse committee. Vanguard does not have the color schemes. It is the townhouse committee that has this information.

Single Family Homes - Unfortunately we do not have the developer’s records for the single family home exterior colors but it appears as though many of the same exterior color schemes that were used in the townhomes were also used on the single family homes. The townhouse committee has samples of all of these colors and may be able to assist you in finding your original paint color for your single family home. If you would like us to attempt to match please follow the procedure listed above for the town homes. We have been successful in matching several single-family home exterior paint colors in the past.

Reminder that ANY change in exterior paint color requires ACC approval. Note: Much care was put into trying to confirm the original colors for the townhouses given to us by the developer but remember, errors can happen, so please confirm this information yourself before you proceed. Keep in mind your exterior color may be faded due to age or sun exposure and manufacturer colors vary. This information was gathered to help guide you in your paint selection.

Home Depot and Lowe’s require a quarter size paint sample in order to get an exact match. They cannot match colors by giving a color and code number.
